With the 2016 presidential election season on the horizon, candidates are vying for position atop polls in hopes of receiving the nomination of their respective parties. The Republican candidates are making much more noise this summer than the Democratic candidates. This can be expected when the Democratic Party has one candidate, Hillary Rodham Clinton, with an overwhelming lead in the current polls; with a consistent spread of at least +30 over her Democratic competitors. So, it is currently the seventeen GOP candidates including Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Scott Walker, Ted Cruz, Chris Christie, Rand Paul, Mike Huckabee, and of course Donald Trump among others that will be discussed and analyzed for the time being.
This Thursday, August 6th, will be the first Republican debate and with all that the earlier part of the 2015 summer has offered, it is shaping up to be an interesting first debate. The ten candidates that are leading in the poll will be invited to the primetime debate aired on Fox. Trump, Bush, and Walker are continually the top three in the early polls. Trump who is the leader at this point has stirred some controversy as of recent.
There have been mixed feelings on his comments about whether Senator John McCain should be referred to as a ‘hero’ and what his plans are on border patrol if elected. He says what he thinks and does not seem to hold anything back. These comments and others from the rest of the field may find a way into the debate. It will be interesting to see how all of the candidates perform and interact. Will there be more bold statements? Will mistakes be made? Will policy plans be misconstrued? One thing is for certain, the candidates will be analyzed and criticized, but will any be praised? On Thursday it will be the first time that these ten candidates for the 2016 election will be together for a debate and questions will be answered. Although no candidate wins an election in the August the year prior to voting, some may realize that they have a lot of ground to cover in strengthening their candidacy if they want to make a push towards the Republican nomination and eventually the White House.
